Unit 2 Reflection

       In this unit, I learned about Pop culture which is popular culture. I read some texts, listened and did presentation, and watched some video. Firstly, from those texts, I could learn the meaning of Pop culture and symbols like objects, people, events, and places. Pop-culture has positive aspects such as popularization of culture, improvement of quality of life, improvement of social problems, and equality of culture. However, pop-culture has disadvantage of poor quality of culture, uniformity of thought, and information manipulation rate. In addition, an example was William Shakespeare who was really famous and still famous writer. Through Shakespeare’s play’s example, I was able to understand that we do not know what will happen and how it is going to change. It could be high culture in the future. We also posted fads. Fad is popular things in a short period of time. With the examples of fads, I could empathize and had fun while I was learning. Furthermore, I read a text about Adele who is very famous singer. I and my classmates shared some information about different pop star and how they became a star. Secondly, we had presentation about pop star. We learned about each of pop culture and pop stars. When we presentation about pop-star. Furthermore, I watched some videos. Bell hooks video and Kevin Allocca’s TED. Bell hook’s video explained about why we need to study about popular culture. And Kevin Alloccas’s Ted video is talking about “why video go vial”. His video is explaining about pop-culture with example of ‘YouTube’.

       My Aha point was Ted video. When I watched the video I learn about Tastemaker, participation and unexpectedness. Those things are important part of being a popular person. I always think about ‘why YouTube creators are famous and popular.’ But when I watched the video, I got an answer. Those 3 things are helpful to make them famous and make a star.

      I did not know that about pop-culture. I think pop-culture is just pop-culture. However, Pop-culture has lots of meaning and give many affects in our lives. They lead us to present trends and showing our lives. So if we know the pop-culture, we can be a normal person not an old person and not a future person.
