Reflection Unit 1

Reflection Unit 1

During the Unit one, I learned about culture like definition, some new words about culture and culture shock. Every topic was interesting but especially I was interested in culture shock. I read some texts and watched some video which are about culture shock. And also I took note taking. Culture shock is a real experience for many people who live a new way of life or move to another country. There are lots of stages like honeymoon stage, distress stage, re-integration stage, autonomy stage, and Independence stage. Those stages are explaining about culture shock symptoms and how we feel it. When we arrived other country, we are excited about expecting of new country. After that, we feel confused, alone, and realize about our life. And then we start refusing to accept the differences. During that stage we feel like we want to go back home. However, after this we try to accept the culture and feel comfortable, confident, and are able to make decision based on our own preferences.  When I learned about culture shock, I could understand about my feeling and respect their cultures.
My Aha moment was, when I learned about culture shock, I got a large number of new information from the class. Before learning culture shock, I did not know about those stages. I just thought culture shock is shocked feeling about culture and new culture is just interesting things. But culture shock had lots of stages and different meaning.
Culture shock is really interesting issues. Culture shock has various stages. And Each stages represents our feeling. I did not know that when I am in distress stage, keeping in touch with my family or friends is good way to overcome culture shock. Culture shock is difficult to overcome by myself, because culture shock suddenly comes to us without anyone knowing so that makes us feel hard. So if someone is having a hard time through the culture shock, I will help them. And I will give some advice how to get through it.
